There is a new sport gaining popularity among local youth. This spring, thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of a Bonnyville teacher, rugby was started up in town.

It was an opportunity to see where they sit so far in the season, as football teams from across the region gathered at Walsh Field for the Jamboree.

The 2018 Iron Horse mini saw around the same numbers of participants they had in last year's marathon, but a noticeable increase in local participation.

The 38th annual RCMP Road Race saw 169 runners from St. Paul and surrounding areas take part in a 12-mile relay race from west of St. Brides to the Recreation Centre in St. Paul. Six schools submitted teams for this year's run.

Residents were dodging, hitting, and throwing for a cause during the annual KidSport dodgeball tournament.

Spectators at Walsh Field will be getting a better view of the action. For its second phase of the turf field and track project, Walsh Field is getting two new bleachers, increasing the seating capacity for high-level sporting events.

There’s been a hike in the number of players hitting the field, as local football clubs gear up for another season. The Bonnyville Bantam Bandits have seen the highest spike in registration for the spring season.

A growing interest in Bonnyville Minor Ball has lead to a shortage in diamond availability. The Town of Bonnyville heard the full scope of the challenges the organization is facing, during their regular council meeting on Tuesday, May 8.

Three local football players are taking the field by storm, after being invited to play on a provincial level. Duncan Critch, 13, and Kistin Watchmaker, 14, put it all on the line for the U16 Team Alberta coaches.

Perfect round offs and, cartwheels, along with amazing flexibility and balance were just some of the moves on display during the St. Paul Gymnastics Club's second annual fun meet, held Tuesday at the Centre Communautaire.
