The season ended for the Saddle Lake Warriors this past weekend after being swept by the Vegreville Rangers in the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League playoffs.

The North East Alberta Track Club, based in St. Paul, won the Club of the Year award at the 2011 Athletics Alberta Annual Awards, which took place at the Palace Banquet & Conference Facility in Edmonton on Feb. 11.

For the first time in their ACAC history the Portage College Voyageurs will not be involved in the post-season play.

For the third post season in a row the Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs will face off against the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the opening round of the 2011-12 Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The hard work is starting to pay off, the momentum is building and the team is hitting its stride at the right time.

The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs are amidst the longest slump of their season, losing three games in a row and seven of the past eight games overall heading into the final two games of the regular season.

Both the Ashmont Falcons senior girls and boys basketball teams won the home tournament this past weekend after defeating local opponents as well as teams from as far away as Red Deer.

Figure skaters Kyla Davies and Candace Braun as well as the St. Paul Peewee A Canadiens hockey team will head to the Alberta Winter Games this week in Spruce Grove, Parkland County and Stony Plain to try to bring home gold for St. Paul.

The Lost Weekend – Portage College Voyageurs at Briercrest Clippers (Feb. 3rd and 4th) The Voyageurs left Thursday afternoon for the nine hour bus ride to Caronport, Saskatchewan hoping to secure a playoff spot in the ACAC men’s hockey league.
