Murray Stephen Andrishak 1957 — 2024 Murray Andrishak, of Deroche, BC, lost a brief battle to lung cancer on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Velma Andrishak, of Elk Point, and brother Brian, two years his senior; survived by sisters Ruth (Bob), of Komarno, MB, Susan (Jim), of Kelowna, and brother Gary (Anne Marie) of West Vancouver, and their extended families. Murray was kind, generous, modest and witty, with a large number of lifelong friends in Canada and abroad. He had numerous jobs throughout his life, his last as a Zamboni driver at the Abbotsford Ice Centre. He commented that he got the job as he was the only one interviewed willing to show up for work at 4:00 AM each day. Murray astonished everyone in the summer of 2022, when on the way home from a vacation in Greece, he made a detour to Ivano-Frankivsk, in south central Ukraine in the midst of its terrible war with Russia. As Wasyl Andrishak, a distant cousin commented in a note from Ukraine following Murray’s passing, he was “the first of the Andrishak family in Canada to set foot on Ukrainian soil.” Murray loved his time there and admired his newfound relatives for their stoicism against all odds! The family extends special thanks to the Christine Morrison Hospital, in Mission BC, where Murray received loving and pain free care in his final days and hours and is comforted by the thought that “he who is remembered lives”.
