With heavy hearts, the family of Leon Richard Dechaine of Bonnyville, Alberta announces his peaceful passing, with family by his side, on Friday, July 14, 2023 at the age of 74 years, after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer.
Leon had a zest for life. He lived each day to the fullest and did everything with a “go big or go home” attitude. He loved to play golf but most importantly he loved his family and the many special gatherings when everyone got together. Leon’s memory will be in the hearts of his family forever, especially, his wife of 54 years: Corinne; five children: Lee (Christine) Dechaine, Greg (Jennifer) Dechaine, Lise (Rolland) Gratton, Lynn (Byron) Sedgwick, Joffre (Jennifer) Dechaine; thirteen grandchildren: Liam & Mckenna Dechaine, Henri, Madeleine, Thomas & Miriam Dechaine, Eric, Brianne & Gabrielle Gratton, Emma Jane & Clara Sedgwick, Zoey & Evan Dechaine; four brothers: Pierre (Louise) Dechaine, Joe (Rose) Dechaine, Laurier (Mona) Dechaine, Michel (Colette) Dechaine; three sisters: Solange (Roland) Lajoie, Estelle (Rob) Barrett, Candide (Randy) Thompson; also, lovingly remembered by: Rosella Plaquin, Omer (Marlene) Plaquin, Yvette (Marcel) Martin, Pauline (Vic) Kotowich, and numerous nieces and nephews. Leon was predeceased by his parents: Wilfrid & Jeanette Dechaine; three brothers: Paul Dechaine, Guy Dechaine, Jean Dechaine; three sisters: Marcelle Gascon, Aurore Michaud, Madeleine Michaud; brothers-in-law: George Michaud, Ted Michaud, Albert Gascon, Bernard Plaquin, Joffre Plaquin; sisters-in-law: Gloria MacDonald, Judy Dechaine, Jean Plaquin. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, July 31, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. (Eulogy will begin at 10:20 a.m.) at St. Jean de Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, Mallaig, Alberta with Father Rene Realuyo officiating. Public Viewing will begin at 9:15 a.m. Pallbearers: Eric Gratton, Liam Dechaine, Henri Dechaine, Shawn Dechaine, Danny Plaquin, Randy Thompson.
