Albert Philip Dirk

February 14, 1931 - March 28, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Albert Philip Dirk announce the passing of our beloved father, father-in-law, and grandfather on March 28, 2023 at the age of 92 in Edmonton, AB.

Dad was born in the tiny village of Fox Valley, SK February 14, 1931 and moved to Bruno, SK. at a very young age. He joined the RCMP in 1951 and was stationed in many locations throughout Alberta. While in St. Paul, AB, he met bank teller Gabrielle (Gaby) Gascon who would become his wife on November 29, 1958 in Therien, AB. Together they started a family of 4 children all born while stationed in Westlock, AB. Dad’s final posting was in St. Albert, AB when he retired in 1975. He then joined the Fraud and Welfare Abuse Unit of the Alberta Social Services as an investigator. He retired as the head of Fraud Investigation Unit for the Edmonton region in 1987.

Dad enjoyed fishing and hunting well into his retirement. He could not wait till the hunting season started where he and his buddies would spend a number of days each year hunting big game. Camping was one of his most joyous pastimes. He took his family on many adventures across western Canada and even visited Yukon and Alaska. He and Gabrielle spent many weekends at their camp getaway on Lottie Lake, AB and fishing on Vincent Lake, AB.

He is survived by his children, Debbie Dirk, Darryl (Kim) Dirk, Diane (Terry) Hruschak, Doug (Lynne Mazey) Dirk, grandchildren, Justin Dirk, Geoffry Dirk, Zack Dirk, siblings, Myrna (Dave) Zawislak, Yvonne (Brendon) Hergott, Wesley Dirk, sister-in-law Sylvia Gascon and niece Andrea (Mike) Newton.

Our father was predeceased by his wife Gaby on July 30, 2012, parents Nick and Veronica (Miller) Dirk, siblings, Rosa Dirk, Rosie Dirk, Bernhard Dirk, Viola Dircks.

At Dad’s request, no service will be held at this time. Cremation will take place and a small family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
