Remembering Emile Cadieux

Emile was born in Lac La Biche on January 30, 1941 and was a life-long resident. He was the eldest of 11 and learned to work at a young age. He was reportedly able to hitch up a team and wagon at the age of 12. Emile attended the Mission School for two years, which was not a happy time for him. He completed school in Lac La Biche, leaving early at the age of 14.

He helped his dad cut and haul firewood to town and worked on a mink farm.

Emile purchased a quarter section (his home quarter) around age 20 and later accumulated more land, a trap line and a commercial fishing license. He raised Polled Hereford cattle, Morgan horses and later Fleckvieh cattle. He liked John Deer tractors and Gleaner combines. In the end, Emile had heart and kidney disease and a broken hip that didn’t heal well. He was in Long Term Care the last two of his 82 years, and died on September 13, 2023.

He was an imperfect, but lovable man. My partner of 29 years. Adieu Emile.

Love, Gina
