April 6, 2020 - Edmonton, Alberta

We are sad to announce the passing of Marshall Tarapaski of Edmonton on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the age of 94 years. Marshall was born on the family farm near Innisfree to Andrew and Mary (Zamorski) Tarapaski.

As a boy he loved the outdoors and sports. He particularly enjoyed playing soft ball with teams in the area. Marshall left the farm at 18 years of age and his first job was in a lumber camp at Edson (Robb), Alberta. He later worked as a mechanic for three different employers. While working for International in Edmonton, Marshall decided to buy a Caterpillar tractor and work for himself. For the next 15 years, Marshall worked in Athabasca, Rochester and northern Alberta clearing brush and building roads.

In 1953 he married Helen Chernyk. They moved to Innisfree where they started their family. Marshall continued to grow his business and later relocated to St. Paul, Alberta. In 1965, Marshall formed Tarapaski Construction Ltd. The company built roads in northern Alberta until his semi-retirement to Edmonton, in 1990. Marshall sold his equipment to his son’s Darrell and Ronald and periodically worked for them as consultant and mentor. Marshall loved his work and was an accomplished contractor and business man. He was often asked for advice from peers in the construction industry. In retirement Marshall continued to enjoy hunting, fishing and travel in Western Canada and the United States. Marshall and Helen continued to love and support their family through retirement.

Marshall leaves behind his wife of sixty six years, Helen; his six children, Arthur (Carmen), Ronald, Darrell, Glenda, Brian and Garry; his grandchild, Stephanie
Fodness (Jerry); two great-grand children, Cohen and Gavin; sister Anne Missouri of Edmonton; two brother’s, Walter of Innisfree and Borden of Edmonton, Alberta. Marshall was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mary (Zamorski); two sisters, Emily Petryk and Sophie Bow; two brothers, Peter and Michael.
