ASHMONT - An alumni basketball tournament is set to take place this weekend, featuring former students hitting the courts at local high schools.
The “Alumni 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament” is scheduled for April 7 and 8.
According to Sarjenka Kuryliw, a teacher at Ashmont and one of the tournament organizers, the tournament aims to raise money for Ashmont School’s athletics program.
The event is open to any Ashmont alumni who played a minimum of two years of high school basketball. The tournament has three divisions - a men’s division, a women’s division, and a co-ed division, and all will be played in a three-versus-three format.
Spectators are encouraged to stop by and watch the action for $2 each.
“We absolutely invite any Ashmont alumni to come and participate, or just to come and view our new school,” said Kuryliw.
An alumni tournament was originally scheduled for April of 2020, but had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
Ashmont has been holding the alumni tournament every three years over the last 25 years, and “this is our first opportunity to have the event here in the new building,” said Kuryliw.
