This year's Ashmont Heritage Days event is set to be a mixture of some past favourites, along with some new additions being added to the weekend of fun and community.
For Sean Dolan, the event chairman for Ashmont Heritage Days, he is most excited about some of the new and re-instated events that will take place at this year's Heritage Days, set to take place on Aug. 10, 11 and 12.
This year's theme is "Home grown," so with that organizers have brought back a bench show for some home made preserves and baked goods, and a home-based or farm-based trade show. Also, there will be a small animal trade show with everything from rabbits and chickens to pigs and sheep, says Dolan.
"There also be some excitement with lawnmower races tractor pulls and the locker auction, where we take old school lockers and bring them to local businesses to fill full of all kinds of merchandise. On Saturday, the lockers are opened, you get a quick look at what you can see in the locker, and the lockers get auctioned off to the highest bidder."
The weekend also includes a slo-pitch tournament on Saturday and Sunday, open to recreational and family based teams. The cost to enter the tournament is $100 per team, and registration can be done by calling (780) 210-0563.
