ST. PAUL – The project design for the renovation of St. Therese – St. Paul Healthcare Centre’s Emergency Department (ED) has been completed and construction is expected to begin this fall.
According to a July 12 statement from the Alberta Health Services (AHS), the construction schedule will allow the ED to “still be operational 24/7 with minimal disruption to the service.”
The ED upgrades include a redesign and renovation that enhances the experience and safety of both patient and staff, according to AHS. Upgrades will also include three new spaces for patient rooms and a new triage space.
“The ED upgrades are expected to begin in the coming months and more detailed timelines will be shared once the project is underway,” according to AHS. Aman Builders will be overseeing the construction of the project.
Town of St. Paul Mayor Maureen Miller said she appreciates the AHS for providing a timeline. “We’re just very excited to finally get this project off the ground,” adding it has been a number of years now since the project was announced.
In March 2021, the Alberta government announced that it will provide $3.5 million funding for the hospital’s ED renovation. The funding is part of Alberta's $50 million investment to the modernization of rural health care facilities over three years through the Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program.

As of March 2023, the provincial government committed $65 million to 22 projects like ED renovations, EMS stations upgrades, and new dialysis spaces across the province.
