ST. PAUL – The County of St. Paul lifted its fire ban on May 7, going down to a Level 3 Fire Restriction.

The restriction does not apply to the Town of Elk Point, the Town of St. Paul, and the Summer Village of Horseshoe Bay who can issue their own fire restrictions.

Due to dry conditions this spring, the County declared a Level 4 Fire Ban in April - banning open-air fires on private land, in campgrounds, or on any other lands within the County, due to dry conditions.

But with rain falling over the past two days, the County decided to lift the Fire Ban, lowering it to Level 3 Fire Restrictions.

“Last week’s moisture, combined with the rainy weather we are currently experiencing, has improved conditions to the point we are comfortable to make the shift,” says Jason Storch, Director of Community Services for the County.

With the Level 3 Fire Restriction, open-air fires are still not allowed, but safe wood campfires are allowed on private land and in campgrounds, according to information from the County.

As part of the Level 4 Fire Ban in late April, fire permits were suspended or cancelled. No new fire permits were issued.

The County will still not be issuing new fire permits or accepting new applications. The County will contact residents with active fire permits and notify them if their permit was suspended or cancelled.
