As of Friday (May 25) morning, the County of St. Paul's Level 4 fire ban had been downgraded to a Level 3 fire restriction - just in time for the weekend.

"Safe campfires are allowed in campgrounds only with approved fire pits," stated the County of St. Paul's website.
Open fires within the County of St. Paul were still restricted, and "Fire permits may be suspended or cancelled and no permits will be issued," according to the county's website.

Fire Ban

The County of St. Paul was under a complete fire ban, which was put in place on Tuesday (May 22) afternoon, according to a media release from Fire Chief Trevor Kotowich.

The fire ban meant "no open fires" were allowed in campgrounds or in any other area within the county. All fire permits were suspended or cancelled, and no new permits would be issued, until further notice.

The order did not apply to CSA approved portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbeques that are CSA approved or UL certified and are designed for cooking or heating.

Anyone with questions about fire bans and restrictions can contact the County of St. Paul at (780) 645-3301 or St. Paul Fire Services at (780) 645-4100.

Previous to the Level 4 fire ban, the County of St. Paul had been under a Level 2 fire advisory.
