A 37-year-old man is facing a number of charges, including dangerous driving causing bodily harm, after a head-on collision occurred yesterday afternoon on Highway 29, east of St. Paul.
At about 3:12 p.m., Elk Point RCMP responded to a report of an erratic driver passing through a construction zone on Highway 41. While responding, police were provided an update regarding a collision that occurred on Highway 29 and Range Road 73, according to an RCMP press release.
Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that a head-on collision had occurred, involving the same erratic driver that was reported resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle when it crossed the centre line.
Elk Point RCMP members, along with St. Paul RCMP that arrived within minutes, learned that the suspect had fled on foot into an adjacent field. Police conducted a search and located and arrested the suspect driver, after which he was transported to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries from the collision. The lone occupant of the vehicle that was hit head-on was treated for serious but non life-threatening injuries, and was also transported to hospital by EMS.
The suspect is facing charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, driving while suspended, and resisting arrest. The vehicle he was driving was previously reported stolen from Cold Lake, leading to an additional charge of possession of stolen property.
His name cannot be released at this time, pending swearing of an information, according to the RCMP release.
