Elk Point RCMP continue to investigate Sunday's fatal crash

Elk Point RCMP are saying their initial investigation into a fatal collision on Highway 41 south of Elk Point on Sunday morning shows it was likely the result of a failed attempt by one of the vehicles to overtake other vehicles.

Police say the lone female occupant of a northbound SUV was killed when her vehicle collided head-on with a southbound semi-truck. Police say the SUV was attempting to overtake another vehicle at the time of the collision.

Police are not identifying the victim or providing an age, saying only she was an adult. The driver of the semi truck was not physically injured.

The crash caused the highway to be closed for more than 16 hours.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash, using an RCMP collision analyst to assist.
