A situation in Elk Point had some of the community on high alert over the lunch hour, Thursday.
At about noon on Sept. 12, Elk Point RCMP responded to an armed robbery at the Elk Point RV Motel.
"A lone male suspect entered the motel in disguise and brandished what was believed to be mace and a knife. The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money," reads a media release sent out Thursday afternoon.
As a precaution, police requested three schools go into hold and secure procedures until it was determined the suspect was no longer in the area.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, about six feet tall, wearing blue jeans and a blue sweater.
According to St. Paul School Division, at about 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, RCMP advised the Elk Point schools of a situation off school property that required them to go into what is described as a "hold and secure."
According to a letter that was being sent home with parents Thursday, "This means all outside doors were locked and monitored, and all students were kept inside the building. Regular classroom activities continued to occur during this time."
Superintendent Glen Brodziak confirmed the incident and provided the letter to the St. Paul Journal, Thursday afternoon.
At 12:50 p.m., RCMP informed the division that the "hold and secure" was lifted and there was no further safety risk to students and staff.
"The safety and well-being of students and staff is a top priority for us at all times, and please know in accordance with our protocol, we always fully cooperate with local RCMP. As parents, we always want information about things affecting our children. Please know that as a division we are committed at all times to provide the most accurate and timely information possible, but at the same time, we must refrain from engaging in speculation or sending out information which could possibly be false or inaccurate."
