SMOKY LAKE — The Emergency Department at the George McDougall-Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre will be without physician coverage during the overnight hours from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12.

The disruptions are in place from 7 p.m. on Jan. 8 to 8 a.m. on Jan. 9; 7 p.m. on Jan. 9 to 8 a.m. on Jan. 10, 7 p.m. on Jan. 10 to 8 a.m. on Jan. 11; and 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 to 8 a.m. on Jan. 12.

"Nursing staff will remain on site in the emergency department providing triage, assessments and referrals for patiens to alternate emergency departments in surrounding communities, as needed," according to Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Patients should call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS will still be available to the community and will be re-routed to other healthcare centres in the region.

Residents can call Health Link at 811 for non-emergency health-related questions.

If coverage is found, then the disruptions may be cancelled, according to AHS.
