ST. PAUL - Dry conditions combined with warm temperatures in the forecast have brought about a fire restriction in the County of St. Paul.

Effective 9 a.m. on May 1, the County of St. Paul is issuing a fire restriction and will not be authorizing any new fire permits, "until such time that significant moisture is received," according to information from Fire Chief Trevor Kotowich.

Safe campfires are still allowed in campgrounds and other areas with approved pits. Fire pits should be constructed of non-combustible material and a spark arrester or metal guard should be in place while in use.

"No open fires are allowed within the County," reads the information from Kotowich. Along with no new permits being issued, existing permits are now cancelled.

The public is asked to enjoy themselves responsibly and ensure campfires are attended to at all times and extinguished completely when they are done.

Anyone with questions can contact the County of St. Paul at 780-645-3301 or St. Paul Fire Services at 780-645-4100.
