ST. PAUL - Dry conditions and high temperatures in the forecast have resulted in a fire restriction being put in place for the County of St. Paul.
St. Paul Fire Chief and Director of Protective Services Trevor Kotowich sent out information to media on April 30, noting that the fire restriction is effective as of 2 p.m. that day.
"This means no open burning of grass, leaves or branches in yards and lake lots," reads the information from Kotowich.
"Any previous brush burn sites should be checked by landowner to ensure they are completely extinguished. Conditions will continue to be monitored and we thank you all for your cooperation."
A Level 3 Fire Restriction means "no open-air fires, including burn barrels." Fire permits are suspended or will be cancelled and no new permits will be issued during the restriction.
"Small, safe wood campfires for cooking and warming are allowed on private lands and in campgrounds," reads the information.
Other municipalities in the region have put fire advisories, fire restrictions, and in some cases fire bans, in place due to the dry conditions. Smoky Lake County is currently under a fire ban, as of April 28.
