GLENDON - Former athletes and coaches from Glendon School's basketball program will be hitting the court from April 14 to 16 during an alumni tournament.

An opening ceremony on Friday, and three days of basketball will keep athletes and spectators busy throughout the weekend.

Registration is now closed for the event, and the final preparations are being made for the inaugural tournament.

“We just want people to come back and play,” said Daryn Galatiuk, the school’s athletic director, during the earlier planning process.

Glendon School’s current high school basketball teams are also going to participate in the tournament, so “it’ll be fun” for the alumni to play the current high school teams “to see how they match up.”

Games will follow the standard basketball regulation where five players for each team will be playing on the court.

According to Galatiuk, the tournament was set to take place three years ago, but was cancelled due to the pandemic, and “we decided we needed to get the ball rolling again.”

“We've had a large response from people either wanting to play or come back and watch the games with their family,” he said. “So, it's been a few years of a process, and we’re looking forward to the... tournament.”

According to Galatiuk, the tournament is akin to a homecoming for many people. Some of the registered basketball players have not been back to the school since they graduated 20 years ago.

The tournament will be an opportunity for people to rekindle old friendships is a chance for Glendon alumni to "just have fun together once again."

“It’s good for the culture of the school and the community.”

Spectators are invited to stop by the Glendon School gym to take part in the three days of basketball action.
