Glendon Mud Bog and Demolition Derby a smash

The stage was set on Saturday afternoon for the 32nd annual Mud Bog and Demolition Derby, located just north of the Villager of Glendon.

GLENDON – The stage was set on Saturday afternoon for the 32nd annual Mud Bog and Demolition Derby, located just north of the Villager of Glendon.

Thousands of people arrived at the grounds to the sound of engines revving, and metal hitting metal.

As the derby cars lurched forward, their tires spitting dirt and gravel, slamming against each other, the crowd erupted in cheers as they watched the chaos and destruction.

On Aug. 12, the annual Mud Bog and Demolition Derby included 20 cars and 29 trucks competing for the derby, and about 30 vehicles competing the mud bog. The drivers include those from Glendon, from the Lakeland, and some from beyond.

“This is a major fundraiser for the Glendon Ag Society. But it’s also a function that brings the whole community together,” said Kenneth Pshyk, president of the Glendon Agricultural Society, as two trucks raced at a mud pit adjacent the demolition ring.

Pshyk explained almost every organization in Glendon, and many members of its community, are involved with the event.

Chelsey Cote, a derby driver, and also the chair of the derby and the mud bog committee, looked at the spectators who came from all parts of the province. “I couldn’t be happier with the number of participants in the event... the crowd... this is a great turnout,” she said, excitedly.

She thanked all those who came out, all the sponsors, volunteers, the community, and the participants for the event. “Without everyone, we wouldn’t be able to make this day happen.”

Pshyk also proudly stated that based on the society’s information to date, “We are the largest truck and car [demolition] derby in Alberta till today.”
