SPEDDEN - Seems like the Grinch is making his rounds already this year stopping by Spedden in the early hours of Dec. 7 and loading up the mailbox outside Cholak’s Store and disappearing into the night with it.
Diane Cholak said anyone who may have posted mail in the outgoing mailbox after 5 p.m. Dec. 4 should know a thief or thieves made off with the entire mail deposit box. So, any Christmas card or letters in the box have disappeared right along with the box.
Smoky Lake RCMP Cst. Jordan Lidstone said the investigation is ongoing, and if anyone comes across the mailbox the local detachment would be happy to hear from them.
“We do have some suspect vehicles but there’s really not a whole lot of information right now.”
Lidstone said he’s been doing some patrols up and down some of the back roads in the area to see if it might show up, but so far no sign of it.
Anyone who mailed an item after 5 p.m. Dec. 4 and through the weekend should know it’s unlikely the Grinch will follow through on delivery of their mail.
“If they had something important that was shipped, any kind of credit card numbers or anything like that and they feel it might be an issue, maybe some cancelling or something should be done,” Lidstone advised.
