An Edmonton man was arrested on Oct. 30 after attempting to allude St. Paul RCMP.
On Wednesday, St. Paul RCMP were able to catch the impaired driver after first noticing a license plate on a vehicle did not match the vehicle, along 53rd Avenue.
"The member attempted to stop the vehicle which then fled. Members were able to eventually track the vehicle and followed it down a dead end road where it ran into a dump truck and was stopped," reads an RCMP media release.
After arresting the man, police located a firearm in his possession. The driver was arrested without incident and no injuries.
"The male driver was impaired by alcohol and a suspended driver. During a search of the vehicle RCMP members located a sawed off bolt action rifle and a large quantity of ammunition," reads the media release.
Chad Riley Moore, 23, of Edmonton was charged with a number of offences, including:
- Operation while impaired by alcohol of a motor vehicle
- Operation while impaired alcohol over 80 mg% of a motor vehicle
- Flight from a peace officer
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a prohibited firearm when knowing possession unauthorized
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammo without a license
- Weapon possession contrary to an order and fail to surrender authorization-firearm
- Weapon possession contrary to an order and fail to surrender authorization-ammunition
- Tampering with a serial number of a firearm
- Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
Moore was taken before a justice of the peace and held in custody to appear in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on Nov. 4.
Sgt. David Graham of the St. Paul RCMP advised that "one of our priorities is to be pro-active within the community. In this instance thanks to the keen eye of one of our members, we removed an impaired driver off the road as well as an illegal firearm. Public safety is a top concern."
