Local singer Mikael Beaudoin will soon be appearing on the French talent show “Un air de famille”, which will be airing on CBC Radio-Canada on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. The show pits family groups against each other in the form of a singing competition, and the winners are selected by public vote.

A fairly spontaneous set of circumstances led to his appearance on the show. “I’ve got a couple cousins in Edmonton that had heard about this show in Montreal,” he said. “They gave me a call, and asked me to join their duo.”

Instead of heading all the way to Montreal for their audition, the family trio utilized modern technology in order to have their voices heard.

“We had to audition through Skype,” Beaudoin said. “It worked out for us.”

The seventeen-year-old singer and his cousins have had little practice as an official group, though they’ve been making melodies as a family for some time now.

“Whenever we would get together at family gatherings we would grab a guitar and sing together, but this is really our first time singing just us three,” Beaudoin said.

Mikael says that he has been taking his singing seriously for about three years now, and after graduating high school last year, he plans to see how far his singing talents will take him.

Though he is somewhat anxious about the upcoming competition, which will be filmed in Montreal, Beaudoin hopes that having some familiar faces nearby will help to calm his nerves. “I feel like my cousins will help me out, and we’ll support each other throughout the process and do our best,” he said.
