ST. PAUL - St. Paul RCMP are using a recent incident as an example of why residents should continue to call in suspicious activity.

On June 25, St. Paul RCMP received a call from a concerned citizen who reported a man was in his backyard with large bolt cutters.

"When the male was confronted by the home owner, the male fled," according to information received from St. Paul RCMP.

Video surveillance was reviewed by responding members in an effort to get a description of the man. Then, active patrols were done in an effort to locate the man.

Police report that they did locate the suspect with large bolt cutters a short time later.

"He was advised he was under arrest, at which time the suspect immediately fled on foot, jumping backyard fences," according to police. "St. Paul Police Dog Services attended and with their assistance the male was tracked to another residence where he was located hiding in the backyard."

RCMP would like to remind citizens to call in complaints like this, "as it likely prevented further criminal offences from occurring."

Louis Cardinal, 47, was arrested and charged with possession of break and enter instruments, trespassing at night, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with probation. He was released on a $1,500 promise to pay, and a court date of July 13 was set after a judicial interim release hearing.
