The St. Paul Legion kicked off this year's annual poppy campaign on Oct. 27 by raising the flags in front of the Legion hall shortly after 10 a.m.

St. Paul Legion president Jim Blair also presented newly elected Town of St. Paul Mayor Maureen Miller with one of the first poppies distributed in town. Poppies are now available at a number of locations in town.

Donations raised through the poppy campaign go toward supporting Canadian veterans.

The Legion is also busy preparing this year's annual Remembrance Day ceremony, which will take place on Nov. 11 at the St. Paul Rec. Centre. Blair recommends people should plan to show up by 10 a.m. since the venue does fill up, and there are plans for this year's ceremony to be bigger than usual.

Pictured at the flag raising event on Friday morning is: (Back row, holding flags) Jim Blair, Guy Pomerleau, and Bill Blower. Standing in front is: Dave Holomberg, Mike Lotoski, Kelly Blair, and Mayor Maureen Miller.
