Joseph Bernie Gamache will face a preliminary hearing on May 10, 2011 in relation to charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property and careless storage of firearms.

Gamache was scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Oct. 28 to speak to the charges, when the date for the preliminary hearing was confirmed. The hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial. Gamache has elected to face a judge alone.

On May 12, 2010, Elk Point and St. Paul RCMP detachments executed a search warrant at a rural location and a St. Paul business, finding a large quantity of drugs, stolen property, firearms and ammunition. According to an RCMP press release sent out at the time, members seized several long-barrel firearms, ammunition, drugs such as marijuana, hashish, ecstasy, LSD and cocaine with a street value of about $36,000, and stolen property valued at a total of $155,000.

RCMP proceeded to lay charges against Joseph Gamache and his father, Omer Rodger Gamache, in relation to the incident, while charges against Joseph Gamache’s mother, Margie Ann Gamache, were also later pressed. The two older Gamaches have pled not guilty, and will be facing trial on May 16, 2011.
