Quad driver facing drug charges

On Sept. 5, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the St. Paul RCMP responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle collision between a quad and a truck on Whitefish Lake First Nation. The truck was travelling north on shortcut road when it collided with the quad.

On Sept. 5, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the St. Paul RCMP responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle collision between a quad and a truck on Whitefish Lake First Nation. The truck was travelling north on shortcut road when it collided with the quad.

The driver of the truck was assessed on scene by EMS and released on scene, one of the occupants was sent to a nearby hospital and another was sent by STARS air ambulance to Edmonton. The driver of the quad was treated for injuries at a nearby hospital.

While investigating the collision, St. Paul RCMP located cocaine and oxycodone along with bear spray in possession of the driver of the quad.

Leon Chamakese, 19, of Pelican Lake First Nation, Sask., was charged with the following;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon

He was released from custody and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Oct. 10.
