Skating oval a big hit with families

Families spend time outside

ST. PAUL - It is a simple idea and it's proven to be a big hit with families in St. Paul.

A skating oval has been created at the Iron Horse campground, after Coun. Gary Ward threw out the idea at a recent town council meeting. Once councillors agreed to proceed with the winter attraction, town employees got to work flooding the first loop of the campsite and creating the ice surface.

Since opening to the public, it has attracted a number of families who have enjoyed the safe, socially distanced activity. The skating oval encourages skating traffic to move in one direction only, and allows for families to keep their distance and stay within their cohorts, abiding by COVID protocols.

LakelandToday.ca reached out to residents on Tuesday for photos taken at the oval and the response was immediate, proving the success of the outdoor rink.
