SPAA basketball season heads into final games

High school basketball teams took part in playoffs on March 1. On March 6, teams from Glendon and Ashmont will compete for this year's SPAA banners.

ST. PAUL - On March 1, the top four teams in the boys' league and the top four teams in the girls' league took to the court for St. Paul Athletic Association (SPAA) playoffs.

On the boys' side, the top seeded team, Glendon School, hosted the fourth seeded team from Tus-Tuk-EE-SKAWS in Frog Lake. In the end, Glendon won the game 77-47 to secure themselves a spot in the SPAA finals.

Playing in Ashmont was the second seeded Ashmon Falcons team, and the third seeded St. Paul Regional High School team. Once again, it was the host team that would win the match, with Ashmont earning a spot in the finals with a final score of 55-45.

Ashmont and Glendon will meet up in Glendon on Monday night to battle it out for this year's SPAA boys' basketball banner.

On the girls' side, Glendon hosted the fourth-seeded Mallaig Stingers. Glendon won the match 61-46. Just west on Highway 28, the other girls' game was being held in the Ashmont School gymnasium, where the Falcons took on the St. Paul Regional High School Saints.

The Falcons won the game 34-22.

Glendon School will also host the girls' final on Monday, welcoming the Falcons to their court.
