St. Paul is once again getting ready to celebrate the nation's birthday with a list of fun Canada Day events set for July 1.

Most of this year's Canada Day celebrations will take place at the St. Paul Recreation Centre from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

"We are hoping for some great weather because we do have the opportunity to utilize some outdoor area surrounding the Rec. Centre for Orbis Sports and the petting zoo," says Sarah Burton, executive assistant with the Town of St. Paul.

Fireworks will be held later that same evening at about 11 p.m. at the same location at the Rec. Centre, as previous years.

A few new things have been added to this year's line-up for the day-time activities. A petting zoo, Indigo Circus Performers, and an expanded kids' scavenger hunt will all be held, offering a full afternoon of family fun.

"Canada Day has been under the town’s umbrella for quite some time now, and it’s a fun event to plan," says Burton." At this point in the year, the kids are done school, families are looking for activities to participate in, and everyone’s wanting to enjoy the summer. What better way to kick off summer than with some community celebrations?"

She encourages families to get out and enjoy an afternoon of fun that is offered at minimal cost to those attending.

"All of activities are free to participate in, other than if you’re wanting to shop at the Vendors Market or looking for a bite to eat from our food and snack vendors on site," says Burton, adding, "I would encourage everyone to attend and take in the festivities to make the day a success and to celebrate Canada’s birthday."

When speaking specifically about the vendors' market, that piece was added to the Canada Day celebrations in 2018. It was well received by both the vendors and those attending, says Burton.

"We are nearly full for table registrations, so I would encourage anyone interested in being a vendor to reach out to myself sooner than later," she explains.

The St. Paul Youth Council will be volunteering to help with the afternoons activities again this year, and local businesses have also come on board to help sponsor some of the activities.
