ST. PAUL – The St. Paul Junior Canadiens Alumni Foundation unveiled a memorial plaque as a tribute to past Canadiens alumni who have helped shape the hockey club.
Patrick Lamoureux, president of the St. Paul Junior Canadiens Alumni Foundation, said the idea for the plaque came about with realization that many alumni of the Canadiens have passed away.
“And recently, regrettably, we’ve had to say goodbye to some of our alumni brothers.” The plaque is a way to ensure, “our alumni members and brothers never get forgotten,” added Lamoureux.
Over 50 names were etched into the memorial plaque at the Clancy Richard Arena lobby area. These names either have been coaches, players, or general managers, explained Lamoureux.
“Like many franchises, once you’re part of the club, you’ll always be a part of the club,” he said. “We never forget anybody and we never leave anybody behind.”
In a statement, the foundation board honoured and acknowledged all alumni members of the club.
“In honour of their lasting impact and unwavering commitment to the team, we pay homage to these fallen comrades who will never be forgotten. May their legacy serve as a guiding light, inspiring us to uphold the values they embodied and to perpetuate the proud tradition of St. Paul Jr. Canadiens for generations to come.”
Back in the Ice
After losing in the second round of playoffs, tthis year’s St. Paul Jr. B Canadiens will be back on the ice. The team was invited to play at the Central Canada Cup, representing the North Eastern Alberta Jr. B Hockey League (NEAJBHL).
The team will be in Flin Flon, Manitoba, from April 17 to 21.
