St. Paul Library offering take-home activities

'Take and Makes' prove to be popular activities offered through St. Paul Municipal Library

A number of Take and Makes were available from the St. Paul Municipal Library throughout the month of January, and more are being planned for February.

ST. PAUL - Despite still having its doors closed to the public, the St. Paul Municipal Library still has a few fun things planned for January and February - keeping patrons busy from a safe distance.

From Jan. 27 to Feb. 7, Family Literacy day will be celebrated through a story walk along the fence at the Jaycee ball diamond, located near the library.

The Snowy Day by Ezra Keats will be featured on the story walk, and allows families the chance to read a story in a unique and safe way outdoors. People are encouraged to scan the QR code at the end of the story to have their names entered into a draw.

The St. Paul library has decided to take a break from participating in the winter reading program that many other libraries in the region are taking part in. Instead, Monique Poulin, programmer with the library, says the library will be focusing on delivering other programs that have proven to be popular with families in the area.

Take and Makes

'Take and Makes' are kits that allow people to create a project from home. The kit includes instructions and most of the items needed to complete the project.

The weekly 'Take and Makes' have proven to be quite popular and more weekly 'Take and Makes' will be offered in February, explains Poulin.

"Some of the items we do not include are things like scissors, glue, markers - things you probably have at home," she adds. "There is a limited supply" of kits, but if people miss out on grabbing a kit, there are instructions available so they can do it on their own.

"Some crafts are easy to put together, as we have all the stuff on hand, but some are more difficult, like the melted snowmen we made last month," says Poulin.

Other programs being offered in the future include a family craft night, Zoom story time, and more. Poulin says a contest of some sort will also likely be held.

As per provincial orders due to COVID-19, the library remains closed to the public.

For now, curbside pick-up is available for all items at the library, including books, DVDs, and CDs. If patrons aren't sure exactly which books they want to sign out, library staff can pick bundles of books based on information provided by the patron.

Library staff are working in the building two at a time from Tuesday to Saturday.

Anyone requiring more information can contact the library at (780) 645-4904, or visit the library's website.
