A 17-year-old male is facing serious criminal charges following a threat at a local school in the St. Paul area on the morning of Feb. 4.
The suspect was involved in an altercation with another student on Monday morning, according to St. Paul RCMP. The incident occurred at a school within the St. Paul Education Regional Division area. The suspect was removed from the premises after the altercation, says the release.
“Later in the afternoon, text messages were received by a student at the school from the suspect threatening to shoot the school," according to the release. “School staff were immediately notified and police were contacted."
The threats were received near the end of the day when students were leaving the school, “and no students were in danger," says the release.
The suspect was brought to the RCMP by his parents and arrested for a number of offences, including uttering threats. The 17-year-old was released from custody on cash bail with strict release conditions.
“The suspect is a student at the school but will no longer be able to attend," according to RCMP.
The name of the suspect and the name of the school cannot be released to protect the identity of the youth. SPERD has been involved with the police investigation and has taken steps to notify staff of the threat.
The investigation into the matter continues, says the release, dated Feb. 5.
