ST. PAUL - A vehicle collision at a convenience store in St. Paul resulted in one person being sent to hospital in Edmonton in the early hours of June 14 and another man being charged by police.

At about 3 a.m., RCMP were called to a motor vehicle collision at the business where a vehicle reportedly hit a person and the building.

"Police arrived to find an injured minor laying on the ground in front of the business. The driver and victim are known to each other," according to information released by RCMP.

"Allegedly, the driver of the truck struck the victim, also crashing into the business. This pinned the victim between the vehicle and the building. The driver then fled the scene," according to police.

RCMP say the victim was taken to an Edmonton hospital with serious injuries, and is now recovering.

An arrest warrant was sought for the driver, who was then arrested.

Courage Matayhies Monias, 18, was charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, failure to stop after an accident, and mischief over $5,000.

Monias is being held in custody for a judicial release hearing.
