VILNA – It was a busy weekend in the Village of Vilna as the community celebrated Boomtown Days from Aug. 18 to 20, with people visiting the quaint Village from far and wide.
The village’s Main Street saw a packed crowd witnessing the parade, which included decorated floats from local businesses and organizations, along with blaring horns and sirens of emergency vehicles raining down candy for the crowd.
Some of the crowd came from outside the Village, travelling from communities like Bonnyville and St. Paul, using the weekend event as a fun reason to visit with friends and family.
After the parade, attendees had the opportunity to check out the local artisans and vendors at the farmer’s market at the village’s Cultural Centre, as well as many other forms of entertainment just outside the centre. Activities included a petting zoo, bouncy houses, games and entertainment.
Laverne Wright-Ozja, who helped with organizing the event, says the community was delighted to welcome guests over the weekend, and organizers were happy to see the community gather to support and reconnect with one another.
It was a weekend of fun for the community, with multiple opportunities to mingle and socialize, such as the family dance held on Saturday and the fireworks display, said Wright-Ozga.
In addition to many activities that allowed people of all ages to enjoy the weekend, the Hay Fundraiser Auction also raised about $5,000 that will help fund the continued operation of local facilities.
Wright-Ozja thanked sponsors, volunteers, and all those involved in ensuring the event’s success.
“It just takes many hours... many people... working together to put it all on. And without the help of everybody... it just wouldn’t occur.”
