Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs ice fishing derby caps off season

The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs held the fourth annual ice fishing derby on March 23 at Moose Lake and Angling Lake, capping off the 2023-24 hockey season.

BONNYVILLE  – The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs held the fourth annual ice fishing derby on March 23 at Moose Lake and Angling Lake, capping off the 2023-24 hockey season.

Anglers from all over the area - both first timers and veterans - had the opportunity to ice fish on Moose Lake and Angling Lake.

“It was a great day out on the ice,” said Neil Langridge, associate general manager with the Pontiacs. He added the number of participants grew from last year, including around 20 participants in the youth division.

Langridge was also more than happy with the feedback from anglers. As results are captured on an app, anglers were able to find a spot and fish by themselves.

“You can go fishing with your kids and your family. It’s just an easy way to get out,” which was the point of the event - to promote outdoor recreation, said Langridge.

It was also a good way to end the hockey season for the Jr. A Pontiacs. The team ended their season run this year in the first round of AJHL playoffs.

“Unfortunately... we got knocked out of the playoffs, but this was a good opportunity to get together with a different crowd of Pontiac fans,” who came out, had fun, and supported the team, said Langridge.

“We thank everybody for their support to another great year of Pontiacs hockey,” from the fans, sponsors, billets, and patrons, added Langridge.

“We’re looking forward to coming back better than ever,” he said, noting the team will start preparing right away for the 2024-25 season.
