Bonnyville RCMP Report: Parolee arrested after fight in La Corey

Break-ins, thefts, and threats keep police busy

BONNYVILLE - Police "rushed to the scene" in La Corey the morning of Sept. 3 after reports of a man with a handgun.

Bonnyville RCMP got a priority one report at 8:44 a.m. Thursday morning about two men fighting outside a location in La Corey, according to an RCMP press release.

Further updates were received as officers went to the scene and, after a "high risk traffic stop," a man was located fitting the description provided by witnesses. He was found with an imitation handgun within easy reach.

The 37-year-old man from Kehewin was arrested and found to be currently on parole. According to local RCMP, he was being held for a hearing and will be returned to the federal institution where he had been an inmate.

The man is charged with multiple firearms offences and parole violations.

Medical clinic goes into lockdown

Local RCMP were called on Sept. 1 around 1:30 p.m. by a complainant reporting a male who threatened to shoot up the medical clinic.

Police attended and spoke with the complainant, who didn't see or hear the event. The member spoke to the initial complainant, who also advised that she was told about it by an unknown patient's wife, but didn't hear it herself. Officers were unable to gather any first-hand knowledge of the threat.

"The clinic completed their own lock down procedure to ensure the safety of any clients and employees while RCMP investigated," stated the press release.

Police continue to investigate the threat and have identified a person of interest.

Costly theft from campervan

In the morning of Aug. 28, a campervan owner called Bonnyville RCMP to report the vehicle had been entered overnight and numerous items were taken.

The campervan was entered through the broken window, while it was parked near Range Rd. 485A and Township Rd. 632.

Two inflatable O'Brien paddle boards are missing, one pink and one blue, with a value of $1,200 each, along with two carbon paddles valued at $300 each. Two Jimmy Styks paddle boards are also missing worth approximately $1,200 each, which are blue with yellow trim and orange in the middle, and two paddles worth $150 each.

There were also two Yeti Tundra XXL Coolers valued at $900 that were stored in the camper. The complainant also stated the suspects took everything from her kitchen, including over $500 worth of pots and pans.

Any information on the missing items can be provided to the Bonnyville RCMP.

Police looking for break and enter suspects

Officers were called to a break and enter in progress just before 4 a.m. on Aug. 29.

A member attended and attempted to locate the vehicle, but before they got there the vehicle fled towards Cold Lake.

Cold Lake RCMP was requested to assist, but the vehicle, described as a red truck, wasn't located.

The homeowner interrupted the suspects before they had time to steal or damage anything on the property.

Anyone with information on the identify of the suspects is asked to contact the Bonnyville RCMP.

Saskatchewan man caught with drugs, stolen truck

A complainant called police around 8 a.m. on Aug. 29 about a suspicious vehicle parked on his property with a male inside.

Bonnyville RCMP attended and located a man sleeping in the driver's seat. The truck had been reported stolen out of Lloydminster, SK, and illegal drugs were located during the investigation.

Richard Dankoski, 31 of Battleford, SK, was arrested and transported to the Bonnyville detachment for a judicial interim release hearing. He refused to speak to bail and was remanded into custody.

Dankoski is charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a controlled substance.

Break-in at gas station

RCMP were dispatched to a call from an employee of the Shell gas station about a break and enter that occurred the morning of Aug. 29.

The manager of the gas station was able to obtain surveillance footage, which showed a male attempting to break into the liquor store using various items. The suspect then went on to break the glass storefront of a vacant store and steal a propane tank.

RCMP located and arrested the suspect, a 33-year-old man from Cold Lake. He was later released on a undertaking for court in Bonnyville.

Prohibited driver hits the ditch

A complainant reported a vehicle driving into the ditch near Township Rd. 611 and Range Rd. 480 at 11 p.m. on Aug. 29.

The complainant told police there were two males and there was a strong smell of alcohol.

Officers arrived and detained the driver, a 34-year-old Cold Lake man. He refused to comply with demands and was found to be operating the vehicle while prohibited.

Both the passenger and driver were transported to hospital.

The driver was later released on an undertaking and appearance notice for court in Bonnyville, charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand (alcohol) and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

Hotel room doors kicked-in

The manager of the Western Budget in town called police on Aug. 30 to report that some hotel room doors had been kicked in.

Officers arrived on scene and took audio statements from the manager and other complainants, who were unable to say when it happened for sure.

The side door to the hotel is not locked, and there was no one staying in the rooms beside or around the doors that got kicked in.

RCMP are continuing to investigate this incident.

Multiple mailboxes broken into

Numerous mailboxes at one location on Lakeshore Dr. in Bonnyville were broken into.

A complainant attended the local RCMP detachment on Sept. 2 just after 1 p.m. to report the incident. Ten customer boxes and one parcel compartment were broke open.

It's unknown what may have been stolen.

RCMP are investigating and looking to gather video surveillance footage in the area.
