Break-ins reported to police over August long weekend

Police charged 20 motorists with failing to wear seatbelts over the long weekend.

BONNYVILLE - Over the August long weekend, two local businesses and a residence were broken into, according to Bonnyville RCMP.

One business was located in the 6500 block of 52 Ave., and the other on Range Road 453 near Township Road 611. The incidents are still being investigated.

The residential break in took place on Highway 659 a few kilometres east of Bonnyville and a charge is pending.

Intoxicated

RCMP responded to an intoxicated male trying to fight strangers in a downtown Bonnyville business and pedestrians walking past the business the evening of Aug. 5.

"Upon police arrival, the male tried to fight with members but was arrested without further incident and lodged in cells until sober," according to RCMP. The man now faces two counts under the Gaming Liquor & Cannabis Act.

Fight

In the early morning hours of Aug. 4, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a parking lot of a local hotel where a fight was taking place.

"Two individuals who were on restraining orders were participants in the fight. A 29-year-old male from Red Deer is charged with disobeying a court order and a 28-year-old female from Red Deer is charged with disobeying a court order and two counts of failing to comply with release conditions," according to police.

Seatbelts

RCMP Traffic Services conducted enforcement patrols in Bonnyville over the long weekend and charged over 20 motorists with failing to wear their seatbelt.

Arrests made

Two arrests were made following a roadside check by RCMP on July 30.

The vehicle did not have registration, and the 43-year-old male driver from Kehewin was suspended and on a warrant. He was arrested and charged with driving while unauthorized. He was also charged under the Traffic Safety Act for Operating without insurance, without registration, and for misuse of a licence plate.

A 30-year-old male passenger from Kehewin was also found ot be on warrant for charges laid by Edmonton Police Service and was subsequently arrested.

Less than a week later on Aug. 3, Bonnyville RCMP were on the lookout for a yellow Chevrolet Monte Carlo driving in Bonnyville without a licence plate. 

"A member located the vehicle and conducted a roadside check with the driver," according to RCMP. The driver was found to be a prohibited driver and was found to be on a warrant. A 38-year-old man was arrested on his warrant and further charged with three Criminal Code offences and three Traffic Safety Act offences.
