Residents are being advised to stay out of the waters at Kinosoo Beach as Alberta Health Services (AHS) has discovered elevated levels of fecal coliforms in Cold Lake.

Testing done on water samples from the popular beach detected high levels of fecal coliforms. At the current levels, skin, ear or eye infections could result from any contact with the water.

AHS officials are also advising the public not to drink any of the contaminated water from Cold Lake, as fecal coliforms can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

Public Health Officers plan to continue monitoring the water at Kinosoo Beach and will notify the public if the current levels change.
