BONNYVILLE - Bonnyville RCMP received five complaints of break-ins at local business compounds between Aug. 8 and 13.

"Multiple business owners reported fences cut and entry (gained) into secure compounds overnight," said RCMP Sgt. Kimberly Hillier. The break-ins occurred in the industrial areas of Bonnyville, on the west side of town.

Affected businesses include Vantage Housing, Diablo Oilfield Services, Big Time Towing and Goose.

Anyone with any information concerning these investigations are asked to contact Bonnyville RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Dangerous use of ATVs

Bonnyville RCMP have received a number of reports about off highway vehicle users driving dangerously in the area of TWP 601A and RR 455.

Reports of drivers not wearing helmets, stunting activity and generally unsafe behaviour have been made to police.

"Members have been patrolling the area and will issue violation tickets if the users are located," according to Hillier. "Safe driving of these vehicles is especially important as the risks of serious injury in a collision are very high."

Busy day

On Aug. 7, while out on patrol, Bonnyville RCMP tried to stop a black Ford F150. The officer was able to identify the driver and used the information to locate the vehicle, which had been abandoned on 66th Street.

"Charges have been laid and an arrest warrant has been issued for 39-year-old Jonathan Sandelin from Cold Lake," according to Hillier.

That same day, RCMP also responded to a report of stolen vehicle. The vehicle is described as a black 1998 Chevrolet with a silver piece on the box, silver trim around the wheels and also has a missing passenger side mirror.

If anyone has any information of the whereabouts of this vehicle they are asked to contact Bonnyville RCMP.

Also on Aug. 7, RCMP received a call from someone reporting they had located their own stolen vehicle, and that it was outside of Goodridge.

"Members attended and located the caller's stolen vehicle along with a second stolen vehicle," according to Hillier.

The property owner, a 45-year-old man from Goodridge, was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime. He was released to appear in court on Oct. 5.

Refusing to leave

RCMP members arrested and removed a heavily intoxicated person from a convenience story in Bonnyville on Aug. 9, after employees reported being followed by the individual.

The man had been refusing to leave the store and was reportedly following employees around trying to hug them and ask for their telephone numbers.

"Members arrived on scene and located the heavily intoxicated male, he was arrested and removed from the store, transported to the RCMP detachment and held in cells until sober," according to Hillier. The 27-year-old man from Bonnyville was charged with one count of mischief and two counts of failing to comply with previous release orders.

Stolen vehicles

On Aug. 9, police received a report of a stolen Kia Sportage. The complainant said his vehicle was taken, and a second vehicle was dumped on his property.

RCMP members attended and located a stolen Ford Freestar van that had been stolen out of Lamont on Aug. 5. The complainant was able to provide a possible suspect and the investigation is ongoing, with charges pending.

Local police located another stolen vehicle on Aug. 10 in the area of Beau Vista and 47th Ave., in Bonnyville.

"The vehicle had been reported stolen from a business in Lloydminster the previous evening. A forensic examination of the vehicle has been completed and the investigation is ongoing," according to RCMP.

Then, on Aug. 12, police received a report of a black 2012 3500 Dodge Ram being stolen from the Dodge dealership the previous night.

"The truck was later recovered by the Elk Point RCMP and was reclaimed by the owner," according to police.
