Multiple intoxication reports result in busy week for Bonnyville RCMP

A handful of individuals received violation ticket under the Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Act by Bonnyville RCMP between Aug. 25 and Sept. 1 following a handful of incidents involving public intoxication.

BONNYVILLE – Between Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, Bonnyville RCMP were kept busy dealing with 183 investigations. Among those investigations were a handful of incidents involving intoxicated individuals. 

At 5 p.m. on Aug. 28, Bonnyville RCMP received a report that a man was in a grocery store parking lot trying door handles of vehicles and disturbing customers.   

RCMP members attended and found the suspect, who was alleged to be intoxicated at the time of the incident. 

The 36-year-old man from Bonnyville was arrested and held in custody until he was sober. Upon his release he was issued a violation ticket under the Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Act. 

Bonnyville RCMP were also called to tend to an intoxicated man passed out on the ground outside a local convenience store. The incident took place on Aug. 29 at 8:30 p.m. 

Members attended and arrested the 70-year-old man from Kehewin and held him until sober. When released, he was issued a violation ticket under the Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Act. 

At 1:30 a.m. the following day, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a local hotel where the staff were reporting an intoxicated man had passed out in front of the hotel. Police attended, located the man and arrested him. 

He remained in custody until sober and the 32-year-old man from Prince Albert, Sask. was issued a violation ticket under the Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Act upon his release. 

RCMP investigate stabbing altercation 

Just after midnight on Aug. 30, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Kehewin following a report of a violent fight involving a stabbing between two men known to each other.   

RCMP officers attended the scene and tended to both men who were transported to different hospitals. The men were both treated for their injuries and released.  

The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending against both men, according to Bonnyville RCMP.
