BONNYVILLE – Emergency department services at the Bonnyville Health Centre will be temporarily closed on the evening of April 20 beginning at 5 p.m.

Due to an unexpected physician shortage, the Bonnyville hospital’s emergency department will be closed from Thursday, April 20 at 5 p.m. until Friday, April 21 at 7 a.m.

As always, patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS calls will be rerouted accordingly.

For patients requiring access to emergency department services, other nearby facilities include the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre (314 25 Street), roughly 51 kms away, and St. Therese - St Paul Healthcare Centre (4713 48 Avenue), located roughly 67 km away.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, for non-emergency, health-related questions. Health Link is available 24/7.

During the temporary closure of Bonnyville’s emergency department, other service areas will maintain regular hours of operations at the hospital.

“We would like to thank the community for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we navigate this extended staffing shortage,” said Shelly Franklin, site administrator for the Bonnyville Health Centre.

“We acknowledge that this temporary service reduction will cause some concern for local residents, and we ask that you are patient with our staff during this challenging time.”
