The Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) have arrested a 19-year-old Bonnyville male in relation to the theft of a 2018 Subaru.
On June 29, the Central Alberta District CRU arrested Trystin Jade Blundell, 19, of Bonnyville. He, and Mark Nelson Corkum-McFetridge, 47 of Red Water, were arrested after stealing a 2018 Subaru from an Edmonton dealership.
The Central Alberta District CRU members were patrolling and focussing on areas in Nusku that have been the target of past criminal activity when they observed a suspicious vehicle.
An investigation led to the arrest of Blundell and Corkum-McFetridge.
During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers recovered stolen property including identification and fraudulently created identification, along with methamphetamine.
Blundell has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, fraudulent concealment, and possession of methamphetamine.
He was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Leduc Provincial Courthouse on July 26.
Corkum-McFetridge is facing 13 new charges in addition to breaching the conditions of his probation. Corkum-McFetridge has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, identity theft and four counts of breach of a recognizance. He is also facing three charges under the Traffic Safety Act and one charge of possession of methamphetamine.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
“The Central Alberta District CRU continues to focus its efforts on targeted policing, and will continue to report good outcomes such as arrests like these” says Corporal William Hiscock, Supervisor of the CRU. “On an ongoing basis we are conducting special operations and gathering criminal intelligence to be shared amongst surrounding detachments, as well as the Edmonton Police Service.”
