A women was taken to the Bonnyville Hospital for stitches after reporting her boyfriend had hit her repeatedly.
On March 9, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a domestic assault where an ambulance had been called and a woman was found bleeding from cut on her face and her mouth.
The victim was taken to the hospital for stitches and kept overnight.
She told police the day after the incident she and her boyfriend had been arguing when he punched her several times in the face.
The victim couldn't recall exactly what happened, detailed Crown prosecutor Tyler McLean.
He added, she told police that it's likely she blacked out at some point during the assault.
The male was arrested later that day.
Less than a month prior, the accused and his girlfriend had been caught stealing from a local liquor store.
The woman had taken a bottle of vodka and placed it the male's bag before they both left.
Following the assault, on April 24, RCMP were driving in Kehewin when they spotted the suspect and his girlfriend together. Because of the domestic nature of the offence, the male wasn't to have contact with the victim.
On Tuesday, May 7, the accused pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm, theft under $5,000, and breaching his conditions.
He was sentenced by Honourable Judge Clifton Purvis to 30 days in custody and a two-year weapons prohibition. The man was released from custody after serving 21 pre-trial days.
The name of the accused has been withheld due to the domestic nature of the offence to protect the identity of the victim.
