During a City of Cold Lake corporate priorities meeting on Jan. 16, attention was brought to a letter from Alberta's Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, Rebecca Schulz. The letter highlighted the necessity of having an updated drought plan, given a lack of moisture across the province.  

In a recent letter from the Diocese of St. Paul, MLA Scott Cyr advised Bishop Gary Franken that there is a pressing need for foster families and adoption. The letter was directed at families and parishioners of the Roman Catholic church communities in the Bonnyville, Cold Lake, and St. Paul areas.  

On Monday morning, Minister of Tourism and Sports Joseph Schow announced that the 2026 Alberta Winter Games will be co-hosted by the Town and MD of Bonnyville, City of Cold Lake, and the Village of Glendon.  

Located right outside of Cold Lake in the M.D of Bonnyville, Kinosoo Ridge Resort offers inclusivity and accessibility in the world of winter sports.  

The provincial government will provide an $820,000 operating grant to the 2026 host society to help cover operating costs such as staffing, transportation, food, venues and promotions.

Cold Lake RCMP are hoping to locate a missing 15-year-old who may be headed to Onion Lake.

The Cold Lake Food Bank is gearing up for a first-time event that aims to raise awareness about food insecurity and homelessness, while encouraging community members to come together and support the local food bank.  

“We are looking at ways of providing more security for patrons, but we’re struggling to keep up with this escalation of potential violence in our community," says Mayor Craig Copeland.

“The bottom line is that the shelter is the safest place for anyone who needs a warm place to stay. Not only is it warm, but there is access to food and other supports that people can take advantage of," says City of Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland.
