RCMP make arrests and locate several stolen vehicles in Cold Lake area

COLD LAKE - RCMP services worked together to arrest several people and recover multiple stolen vehicles in the Cold Lake area.

On Dec. 8, Cold Lake RCMP say they targeted repeat offenders who were on warrant in the Cold Lake area. 

As a result of the project, Cold Lake RCMP say they arrested several repeat offenders, located multiple stolen vehicles, and recovered a 2023 Dodge Challenger worth $86,700.

The Lakeland Crime reduction Unit (LCRU) with the assistance of Cold Lake General Investigations Section (GIS), Police Dog Unit (PDS), Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (EAD CRU), RCMP Air Services and Cold Lake general duty members conducted a multi-day crime operations project targeting the individuals.

Marty Scanie, 19, a resident of Cold Lake was charged with possession of property obtained by crime. Scanie was released with the next court date of Jan. 10, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake.

Nevada Desjarlais, 19, a resident of Calgary, was charged with flight from peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and fail to comply. Desjarlais was remanded into custody, but released at a later date with the next court date of Jan. 1, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake.

Kyle Roth, 38, a resident of Langdon, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from peace officer. Roth was remanded in custody with a court date of Dec. 19, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake.

Brandon Jacknife, 22, a resident of Cold Lake, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was charged with flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He was also charged with resisting arrest, operation of a vehicle while prohibited, and more. Jacknife was remanded in custody with his next court date being Dec. 19, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake.

A youth was also arrested during this project, but cannot be named under The Youth Criminal Justice Act.

"Cold Lake RCMP want to remind residents not to leave your vehicle running unattended with keys inside, remove your personal belongings and to lock your vehicle. Over the last few months, Cold Lake has seen a drastic increase of vehicle thefts," reads the information.
