ELK POINT – Elk Point Economic Development Committee has now received confirmation that the Communities in Bloom judging team will arrive to tour the town on Aug, 12, with Terri Hampson announcing at last week’s meeting that horses and wagons will be available to transport the judges and committee as they check out the community.
The full day of touring will once again include visits to the Peter Fidler statue, parks and residential areas, followed by visits to the community gardens, and historical mural, a walking tour of the downtown area, coffee and lunch breaks, with afternoon visits to the Iron Horse Trail, history highlights at the nearby cabin, a tour through the industrial park and a visit to the Allied Arts and Leisure Centre.
A driving tour will take the judges to the riverside and recreation park campgrounds, Lions fish pond, ball diamonds and golf course before they take a break to evaluate their findings. A question and answer session and dinner will wind up the busy day.
The community will be judged on appearance, environmental action, landscapes, tree management, plants displays and tidiness, with this year’s theme being edible gardens, and businesses and residents are encouraged to have their premises looking their best for these very special visitors.
Iron Horse 60K Ultra
Registrations for the Oct. 4 Iron Horse 60K Ultra are trickling in, and Hampson reported that the items for the swag bags are completed. What she needs the most now, she says, is a second lead person for the event, to assist with the day’s activities, from check-in to completion.
