ELK POINT - Elk Point U11 Avalanche came through Friday and Saturday’s round robin playoff with one loss, one win and a 7-7 tie to add up to the 19 goals that put them in Sunday’s North East Alberta Hockey League gold medal final against the Consort Clippers, who led the round robin with two wins, one of them a close 6-5 victory over Elk Point, and one loss.

Sunday’s final, which followed a 4-3 bronze medal win by the Vermilion Tigers over the Hughenden Jets, saw the Avalanche take a 4-0 lead in the first period, before Consort sent a successful shot past goalie Stetson Reynolds less than two minutes into the second frame.

The Avalanche increased their lead to 7-1 by the 40-minute mark and added another pair in the third for a final 9-1 score that would earn them the 2023 NEAHL U11 Tier III championship before an exuberant hometown crowd.
