LAC LA BICHE – The Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days will feature fun and exciting events for people of all ages, including a festival specifically aimed at children.
Chantel Sparklingeyes, secretary of the Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days and Fish Derby Association, said the children’s festival will be held on Aug. 2 and Aug. 3, and will feature a variety of amusements for youngsters, including a petting zoo, face painting, balloon art, and bouncy castles.
The children’s festival takes place between the midway in the Bold Centre parking lot and the adjacent sports fields and goes from 1-6 p.m. on both days.
“It’s definitely going to be a lot of fun for the kids and the families, and the community,” Sparklingeyes said. “On Sunday evening, we will also be hosting a family foam party,” she said.
This foam party involves young participants and their families having plenty of fun playing around and even engaging in lighthearted foam fights in a giant area filled with thick bubbles.
“Just all-around good fun with bubbles,” she said with a smile.
The children’s festival became part of Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days within the past few years, when the long-running community event was called Summer Days. According to Sparklingeyes, members of the new Pow Wow Days and Fish Derby Association wanted to carry on the event and incorporate it in the revival of Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days as people used to know it.
Having a children’s festival as part of the roster of events for Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days, Sparklingeyes said, provides young kids and their families who perhaps aren’t interested in or are too young to go on midway rides, to participate in other activities.
“This year, we wanted to just keep up the opportunity for all ages to engage in Pow Wow weekend events,” she explained. “And so, to have a children’s festival with different activities and games outside of the midway was natural for the board to decide to carry forward. It’s been given positive feedback from past participants.”
Organizing the children’s festival in the weeks and months leading up to Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days 2025, has involved securing the vendors, including those who will be operating the bouncy castles, booking a face painting artist and ballon animal artist, and seeking sponsorship.
“We’re so thankful this year to have amazing community businesses and industry to come together and support this important event,” she said. “By supporting the event, they’re supporting the children and the families in the community and surrounding areas.”
