LAC LA BICHE - An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting that took place in Lac La Biche on Sunday morning. The incident resulted in the death of a man.
Lac La Biche RCMP responded to a call at 11:47 a.m. on July 27 regarding a disturbance at a residence, according to information released Sunday night.
"Three officers responded and a confrontation occurred. The man attacked one of the officers with a knife and one of the officers shot the man. Officers attempted life saving efforts, however, the suspect died at the scene," reads information from RCMP.
"The officer was treated for his injuries and has been released from the hospital."
An internal review process has been initiated, and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the actions of the police officers.
"The RCMP believes in processes that seek the facts and it’s important that processes taken to assess the actions of all those involved, including the police, are fair, transparent, and defendable," reads information from Alberta RCMP.
Along with the RCMP's internal review process, RCMP is fully cooperating with ASIRT, reads the information.
